Oggi conosciamo i The King Arold, facendo due chiacchiere con Gianni Galli, il vocalist del gruppo. Conosciuti in Francia e in Belgio, hanno all’attivo cinque album e uno di prossima uscita. Il loro è un sound glam pop rock travolgente, carico di energia. Anche nelle loro parole scritte si percepisce quello stile vintage, autentico e potente, che porta con sé una storia unica.
Ciao Gianni, grazie per questa intervista. Qui in Italia vi conoscono poco, quindi la prima cosa che ti chiesto è: cosa significa il nome della band? Chi è King Arold?
Il nome del gruppo The King Arold deriva da un ragazzino autistico di nome Arold, a cui rendiamo un affettuoso omaggio perché lo apprezziamo davvero molto. Per noi è, e sarà sempre, il re Arold. Non può conoscere il nostro progetto musicale, ma a lui dedicheremo con grande emozione un brano dal titolo Big Town.
Un pensiero pieno d’affetto, di certo arriva dritto al cuore. Ma come nasce il gruppo? Cosa vi ha portato a unirvi come band?
Il gruppo è nato tre anni fa dall’incontro di diversi musicisti, provenienti da band differenti ma sotto la stessa casa discografica. I componenti sono: alla batteria Geof Mary, al basso Alex Granata, alla chitarra Julien Mary e io, alla voce. La musica ci ha riuniti e ha creato tra noi legami profondi, quasi familiari.
Soffermiamoci sul vostro stile musicale. Come potresti definirlo? E quali generi musicali, o quali artisti, vi ispirate maggiormente?
Il nostro stile musicale è un mix personale che prende ispirazione da grandi nomi come The Who, i Queen e Jeff Buckley. Gli artisti che ci hanno influenzato sono davvero tanti: da Jaco Pastorius al basso di Jeff Buckley, fino a molti altri… potremmo andare avanti per giorni a citarli tutti!
Il vostro stile è rimasto costante sin dall’inizio o è cambiato nel tempo?
Il nostro stile si evolve naturalmente con il tempo, con le esperienze e con le conoscenze che acquisiamo. E, ovviamente, cambia anche grazie alle ispirazioni che la vita stessa ci regala lungo il cammino.
Suonate soprattutto in Francia e in Belgio?
Sì, ci siamo esibiti molto in Francia e in Belgio, e ora speriamo con entusiasmo di far arrivare la nostra musica anche nel resto d’Europa.
Qual è il vostro metodo di lavoro?
Lavoriamo molto a distanza, scambiandoci file audio e composizioni via e-mail. Per le registrazioni ci ritroviamo in studio, tra il Belgio e il sud della Francia, e infatti non esitiamo a prendere un aereo per incontrarci in studio.
Avete pubblicato cinque album ma non parliamo del passato, soffermiamoci sul presente, dato che attualmente state lavorando a un progetto importante. A che punto siete?
In questo momento siamo in studio per completare il nostro nuovo album, infatti è in fase di registrazione. Possiamo anticipare che ci saranno alcune sorprese, con featuring davvero interessanti. Ma preferisco non svelare altro.
Facendo riferimento alle vostre produzioni, ci sono brani che vi rappresentano di più o a cui siete più legati?
Personalmente amo molto Swimming, perché ogni volta che lo canto ho la sensazione di trovarmi dentro un rullo compressore: un’energia che mi travolge e mi fa vibrare.
Quale brano ti emoziona ogni volta che lo suonate dal vivo? Ti porta un ricordo particolare?
Caro amore mio, una canzone del mio primo album, perché è una dedica sincera a una donna meravigliosa.
Cosa vi aspettate per il futuro? Quali sono i prossimi progetti?
Non vediamo l’ora di terminare il nostro album e di condividerlo finalmente con il pubblico. Ci siamo presi il tempo necessario per realizzarlo al meglio e crediamo che sarà davvero un piccolo gioiello.
Cosa vorreste trasmettere a chi vi ascolta?
Vorremmo regalare tanta gioia e buon umore, soprattutto in questi tempi in cui ce n’è davvero bisogno.

The King Arold: the interview — English edition
Today we meet The King Arold, chatting with Gianni Galli, the band’s singer. Known in France and Belgium, they’ve released five albums with another forthcoming. Their sound is captivating and energetic glam pop rock. Even in their written words you can perceive that vintage, authentic and powerful style, which carries with it a unique story.
Hi Gianni, thanks for this interview. Here in Italy, little is known about you, so my first question is: what does the band’s name mean? Who is King Arold?
The band’s name comes from an autistic boy named Arold, whom we pay homage to with affection because we truly appreciate him. For us, he is, and always will be, King Arold. He may not be familiar with our musical project, but we’re thrilled to dedicate a song to him, called “Big Town.”
A thought full of affection, certainly touching. But how did the group form? What brought you together as a band?
The group formed three years ago from the meeting of several musicians, all from different bands but under the same label. The members are: Geof Mary on drums, Alex Granata on bass, Julien Mary on guitar, and me on vocals. Music brought us together and created deep, almost familial bonds between us.
Let’s talk about your musical style. How would you define it? And which musical genres or artists do you draw most inspiration from?
Our musical style is a personal mix that draws inspiration from big names like The Who, Queen, and Jeff Buckley. The artists who have influenced us are countless: from Jaco Pastorius to Jeff Buckley’s bass, and many others… we could go on for days naming them all!
Has your style remained unchanged since the beginning, or has it changed over time?
Our style evolves naturally over time, with the experiences and knowledge we acquire. And, of course, it also changes thanks to the inspirations that life itself offers us along the way.
Do you play mainly in France and Belgium?
Yes, we’ve performed extensively in France and Belgium, and now we’re excited to bring our music to the rest of Europe.
What’s your working method?
We work primarily remotely, exchanging audio files and compositions via email. For recording, we meet in the studio, between Belgium and the south of France, and we don’t hesitate to fly to the studio.
You’ve released five albums, but let’s not talk about the past; let’s focus on the present, since you’re working on a major project. What’s your current status?
We’re in the studio finishing our new album; it’s currently being recorded. We can expect some surprises, with some really interesting guest appearances. But I’d rather not reveal anything else.
Regarding your productions, are there songs that best represent you or that you’re most connected to?
Personally, I love “Swimming” because every time I sing it, I feel like I’m on a steamroller: an energy that overwhelms me and makes me vibrate.
What song moves you every time you play it live? It brings back a special memory?
Dear Love, a song from my first album, because it’s a sincere dedication to a wonderful woman.
What are your hopes for the future? What are your next projects?
We can’t wait to finish our album and finally share it with the public. We’ve taken the time to make it the best it can be, and we believe it will truly be a little gem.
What would you like to convey to your listeners?
We’d like to spread joy and happiness, especially in these times when it’s so desperately needed.
